[lively-kernel] Populating my user dir

I've been reading through a lot of the introductory, getting started, and
tutorial material, but I am unsure as to how to proceed. I have an empty
user directory, which I think might have been a mistake when the directory
was generated. Is it better for me to use a local copy of LK to test and
play with ideas?
