It is very difficult for me to read the code pane as the contrast is poor
between the text and the background. I

Note that I have noticed this trend in most available Web pages for about a
couple of years. The text color is not black but some variation of brown or
gray.

Unfortunately it could a combination of factors. I am using ubuntu 12.04 and
I think that contrast is poor vs. the same text on windows
